Near move

A transition tier for target roles that preserve the most existing skills and can usually be tested with a small proof project or an internal move.

What this means in practice

Near moves are the calculator's default recommendation style: adjacent roles, same-category moves, and native pathways with high skill overlap. They minimize wage loss and retraining time, which is what most workers planning under pressure actually need.

A Customer Service Representative moving into a Customer Success Associate role is the canonical near move — the service, escalation, and account skills transfer directly, and the new component is a modest set of success metrics and CRM habits.
